Fencing on Asphalt

Hello everyone, I am Marco from Fenceshop, the e-commerce of Rete Plastic. Today we will explain how to set up a fence on asphalt, a necessity that can arise in various situations such as industrial areas, near roads, or in temporary contexts. Let's find out how to do it together!

Why fence on asphalt?

The need to fence on asphalt can arise in multiple contexts. For example, we might find ourselves in an industrial area or near a road, or we might need a temporary fence. In these cases, it is essential to know how to proceed correctly to ensure the safety and stability of the fence.

Avoid using anchors

The first thing to avoid is using anchors directly on the asphalt. Even though there are specific anchors for asphalt, in the real world asphalt becomes very soft with heat, making anchors ineffective. Therefore, it is better not to use this technique.

How to proceed correctly

To set up a fence on asphalt, follow these steps:

  • Drilling: Use a powerful drill with a bit of about 40 mm to make a hole in the asphalt. The depth of the hole should be 30-40 cm, depending on the length of the post.
  • Post insertion: Insert the post into the hole. Even though the diameter of the hole is slightly larger than the post, the difference in circumference between the hole and the post will help to stabilize it.
  • Liquid cement: Pour liquid cement around the post to further secure it. This step is crucial to ensuring the stability of the fence. Use a funnel to pour the cement evenly.
Semi-temporary fences

For semi-temporary fences, you can use rebar. Here’s how to proceed:

  • Drilling: Use a 12 mm bit to make a hole in the asphalt.
  • Rebar insertion: Insert the rebar into the hole and pour some cement to secure it. Even though this solution is not permanent, it offers good temporary stability.
Final considerations

It is important to remember that these techniques are temporary or semi-temporary solutions. However, they can be very useful to overcome the obstacle of needing to fence on a non-ideal surface like asphalt.
